Is minic a bhím faoi bhrón sa gheimhreadh agus na laethanta ag éirí níos giorra, na crainn fágtha lom agus gach rud ina chodladh. Is faoin mhothúchán sin atá an t-amhrán seo.

I often experience a sadness in winter when the days grow shorter, the trees lose their leaves and everything seems to sleep. I wrote this song about that feeling.

Amhrán faoin bheocht a bheith ag teacht ar ais ionam i ndiaidh tréimhse fhada faoi ghruaim. Bhí geimhreadh dubh dorcha curtha isteach agam i gcathair Bhéal Feirste, ach mhothaigh mé an splanc ionam féin arís le linn dom a bheith ag siúl i bPáirc Foraise na Tulaí Móire i gContae an Dúin.

A song I wrote about beginning to feel alive again after a very dark time in my life. It was inspired by a visit to the beautiful Tollymore Forest Park in Co Down after a very bleak winter in Belfast city.

Leagan Gaeilge den amhrán chlúiteach ‘The Foggy Dew’ scríofa ag Canon Charles O’Neill (1887-1963) as Condae an Dúin. Thug Seán Mac Aindreasa ó Bhéal Feirste na focail seo do Gráinne. D’fhoghlaim sé féin iad sna 50í i gCumann Chluain Ard, Béal Feirste. B’é an scíobhneoir iomráiteach as Rann na Feirste, Séamas Ó Grianna (1889–1969) a d’aistrigh go Gaeilge. Ar fáil ar ‘Gaelré’, an dara albam ó Ghráinne Holland ar lipéad Gael-Linn. A Gaelic translation of the famous song ‘The Foggy Dew’ by Canon Charles O’Neill (1887-1963) from Co. Down. Seán Mac Aindreasa of Belfast provided the lyrics to this song which he learned in Cumann Cluain Ard during the 1950’s. This translation is by renowned Rann na Feirste writer Séamas Ó Grianna (1889–1969).

Uiseag Bheag Ruaidh

“Uiseag Bheag Ruaidh”, (meaning Little Red Lark) is a traditional Gaelic lullaby from the Isle of Man.  The song is track number 4 on Gráinne’s first album; Teanga na nGael.

Gráinne performs ‘Meilte Cheann Dubhrann’ with Donal O’Connor, John McSherry and Tony Byrne for BBC Alba’s ‘Blas’ which was filmed during the Blas Festival 2013.

Gráinne Holland performs the Gaelic song Méilte Cheann Dubhrann for BBC Alba’s Blas festival coverage during the Blas festival 2013. Accompanying Gráinne ar Dónal O’Connor on fiddle, John McSherry on whistle and Tony Byrne on guitar. Seamús Ó Grianna (Máire) penned the words of ‘Méilte Cheann Dubhrann’ about his home village of Rann na Feirste, the melody is borrowed from earlier the song ‘The Blue Hills of Antrim’ by Belfast native Joseph Campbell.

Gráinne performs ‘A Mhuire ‘s a Rí’ on BBC Alba’s ‘Horo Gheallaidh’, filmed during the Celtic Connections Festival 2012.  Accompanying Gráinne are Dónal O’Connor (piano), John McSherry (low whistle), Tony Byrne (guitar) and Lewis Smith (saxophone).

Gráinne Holland performs the song ‘A Mhuire ‘s a Rí’ from her 2011 album ‘Teanga na nGael’. This performance was recorded for ‘Horo Gheallaidh’ on BBC Alba at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow in January 2012. Accompanying Gráinne are: Piano – Donal O’Connor Whistle – John McSherry Saxophone – Lewis Smith Guitar – Tony Byrne
