Ceol na Sióg
The fairies are inviting us to visit the magical world around us: the natural world. You’ll find them among the flowers, hiding in tops of the trees, in the shade of the full moon or under the waves. The fairies are waiting to share their magical songs with you.
Ceol na Sióg is a collection of 13 Gaelic songs written by Gráinne Holland about the beauty and wonder of the natural world. The magical world of the mysterious owl gliding through the darkness watching the little mouse below leaping and running under the light of the full moon. The singing sound of the river bewitches you as it begins its journey as a mountain stream where the birds bathe, then flows through the forest as the salmon leap for joy in its waters and finally it meets the sea where the herons are waiting to catch their lunch. The crows are clacking and chattering among the oak trees where tiny acorns are forming, waiting to be buried in the earth where they can grow and grow into new oak trees and listen to the robins, finches, wrens and blue tits singing sweetly in their branches. The bees and butterflies are busy fluttering and buzzing among the flowers below as they collect sweet nectar and the squirrels are darting around beside them gathering nuts and seeds from the forest floor. They are all the friends of the fairies and if you look closely, you might just see a fairy, riding on the back of a seagull as it flies over the sea or on the back of a dolphin as it leaps for joy in the waves below.
Ceol na Sióg, published by An tSnáthaid Mhór, is beautifully and articulately illustrated by renowned artist Andrew Whitson. He brings the wonder of the natural world to life and allows us to journey with the fairies and explore the magic of mother nature through their eyes.
The album was produced, recorded and mixed by Seán Óg Graham in Bannview Studios who also beautifully accompanied each song on a range of instruments. Renowned musicians Brian Finnegan and Niamh Dunne also played on the album and brought their own magic to each song.
Come and join the fairies on an adventure to discover the magic of the world around us.

Is cnuasach de 13 amhrán nuascríofa do pháistí le Gráinne Holland Ceol na Sióg. Déantar ceiliúradh sa cheol ar áilleacht agus ar iontais an nádúir. Cruthaítear íomhánna gleoite – ulchabhán mistéireach ag faoileoireacht sa dorchadas ag coimhéad ar an luchóg bheag atá ag bocléimneach agus ag rith faoi sholas na lánghealaí. Cluinimid fuaim na habhann sa cheol agus leanann muid a turas óna tús mar shruthán beag sléibhe, folcadán na n-éan, í ag sníomh ansin fríd an fhoraois, áit a mbíonn bradán mór ina léim le háthas, go dtí go mbuaileann sí leis an fharraige mhór, áit a mbíonn an corr réisc ocrach ag cuardach a lóin. Tá na préacháin ag grágaíl agus ag geabaireacht i measc na gcrann darach, áit a bhfuil na dearcáin bheaga ag fás. Na dearcáin bheaga chéanna, nuair a bheas siad fásta, titfidh siad go talamh. Ina luí faoin chréafóg dhonn, fásfaidh siad ina gcrainn darach nua agus i measc a gcraobhacha, cluinfear ceiliúr éanacha na coille: an spideog bhroinndearg, an glasán beag darach, an dreoilín beag bídeach agus an meantán gorm. Tá an féileacán agus an bheach ag cleitearnach agus ag drantán i measc na mbláthanna agus iad ag cruinniú neachtair. Tá an t-iora rua ag bailiú stór de chnónna agus de shíolta ó urlár na coille. Cairde de chuid na sióg iad uilig. Má amharcann tú go cúramach, b’fhéidir go bhfeicfear sióg ag marcaíocht ar dhroim an fhaoileáin trasna spéir na farraige, nó sióg eile ag spraoi leis an deilf go háthasach ar na tonnta móra. Domhan draíochtach an nádúir!
Tá Ceol na Sióg, foilsithe ag an tSnáthaid Mhór, maisithe go gleoite deismir ag an ealaíontóir iomráiteach Andrew Whiston. Cuireann Andrew iontais an nádúir os ár gcomhair ina steillbheatha agus tugann deis dúinn taisteal leis na sióga agus amharc ar áilleacht an nádúir trína súile s’acu.
Rinne Seán Óg Graham an dlúthdhiosca seo a léiriú, a thaifeadadh agus a mheascadh i Stiúideonna Bannview. Chuir sé féin tionlacan álainn ildánach leis na hamhráin ar réimse d’uirlisí ceoil. Sheinn na ceoltóirí iomráiteacha Niamh Dunne agus Brian Finnegan ar an albam seo fosta agus, i gcuideachta Sheáin Óig, chuir siad draíocht na sióg i réim ar gach uile amhrán acu.
Seo linn ar eachtra leis na sióga ina nochtfar an draíocht atá sa domhan thart timpeall orainn.
